THE UNIVERSITY

The Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar was established by an Act of Legislature of Haryana State on October 20, 1995 (Haryana) Act 17 of 1995 to facilitate and promote studies and research in emerging areas of higher education with focus on new frontiers of technology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Environmental Studies, Non-conventional Energy Sources, Media Studies and Management Studies as well as to achieve excellence in these and related fields. It was formally inaugurated on November 1, 1995. It is named after Guru Jambheshwar, a saint environmentalist of 15th century.   The University has grown to its full size and stature within a short span of six years. The University Grants Commission recognized this University under sections 2(f) for the recognition of degrees on 11.1.1996 and under section 12(B) of the University Grants Commission Act for financial assistance on 7.2.1997.

Location :   

The University is situated at Hisar, a rapidly growing town situated at about 175 Kms. from Delhi. It is one of the principal cities catering to the educational and commercial needs of huge rural population. It is a major center of higher education and research with two major Universities of the State, a number of Colleges, Research Institutions and breeding farms of different types of animals etc.

Campus :   

The University is situated over a sprawling area of about 372 acres. The campus is laid out with picturesque landscape, numerous buildings of various sizes and wide road network. It presents a spectacle of harmony in architecture and natural beauty. A number of buildings like three Teaching Blocks, four Hostels, Shopping Complex, VIP Guest House, Faculty House, Vice Chancellor's Residence, Administrative Block, Jambheshwar Bhawan and more than 150 residential houseshavealreadycome up.New buildings in the form of University Library, three more teaching blocks, extension wing of Boys Hostel, extension of Administrative Block, Water Works, Energy Park, Engineering store, University Health Center and some more residential houses are under construction.

Regular Courses :   

The University is offering 25 regular courses in diverse disciplines viz. two M.Tech. courses, seventeen post graduate courses and six graduate courses.

The Directorate of Distance Education :   

The University introduced Directorate of Distance Education in 1997. During the current academic session the following programs are being offered through Distance Education:-

    Master of Computer Applications (MCA)
   M.Sc.(Computer Science)
   Master of Business Administration (MBA)
   Master of Mass Communication (MMC)
   Master in Insurance Business (MIB)

P.G. Diploma Courses :

   Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA)

U.G. Courses :  

    Bachelor of Mass Communication (BMC)
   Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)"
   Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA)   

The students can seek admission in the University directly or through the Study Centers created by the University all over India to facilitate the students to pursue their courses in these centers without having come to the university from far off places.
